AirPods and AirPods Pro are both getting a revamp, both on the outside and the wireless chip inside.
According to Bloomberg , Apple is developing improved versions of the wireless earbuds AirPods and AirPods Pro, which are expected to launch in early 2021. Both are redesigned, as well as have upgraded processor chips.
At the same time, the long rumored over-ear headphones are still being tuned. Apple also plans to launch a third HomePod speaker, nestled between the $ 299 HomePod and the $ 99 HomePod mini , that was announced during the iPhone 12 launch event .
Accordingly, the second-generation AirPods Pro can remove the long body, a feature inherited from the AirPods launched in 2016. They still have noise cancellation but the design is similar to Samsung’s Galaxy Buds Plus or Pixel Buds of Google.
Meanwhile, the standard AirPods will upgrade with many existing details of the Pro version. The headphone body is shorter and comes with replaceable earbuds. Apple is also looking to improve battery life on third-generation AirPods. It is expected that this product will be announced in the first half of 2021.
Besides improving AirPods and AirPods Pro, Bloomberg revealed that Apple is continuing to develop over-ear headphones like recent rumors. The design of the product is adjusted, reducing the external touch surface, as well as the number of replaceable parts.
According to the schedule, this product started production a few weeks ago but eventually delayed due to the issue of the headband being too tight.
Bloomberg also said that Apple has been in internal discussions about adding a third HomePod speaker to its product line. However, this plan is at an early stage, there is no specific information and it is unlikely that it will come true.
Thus, almost a year since the launch of the AirPods Pro and 18 months after the second-generation AirPods, Apple is planning to upgrade two of its famous wireless headphones.
The AirPods will inherit some of the Pro line’s design benefits, while the premium version is more streamlined, making them work well in a variety of situations.
