On January 12, Tesla CEO Elon Musk stated on Twitter that fully autonomous driving will be launched “soon”. Previously, Tesla had repeatedly promised (and as a selling point of the product) that it would be able to achieve fully autonomous driving of the car without driver intervention.
Musk said the “fully autonomous driving” feature is invaluable and will add tens of thousands of dollars in value to Tesla and enable the car to make money for car owners through the Telsa network taxi service.
Tesla has already achieved autonomous driving on the highway, but for Tesla, urban roads are a more challenging driving environment. However, it remains to be seen whether Tesla will achieve the toughest 5%, after which Tesla still needs to persuade regulators to ensure the safety of driverless cars.
There is still no clear time to market here, but Musk has previously said that Tesla’s network services will be launched in 2020, which means it will be launched before the end of this year.
